Advantages of Internet Essay Science and technology play a very important role in our life. Most of our daily activities are greatly associated with science and technology. One of the contributions of science and technology to mankind is the invention of Internet. With this invention being so widely used, it has both advantages and disadvantages. In this essay, I shall discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the Internet. The first advantage of the internet is that it provides us with leisure. This is because the Internet can provide us with various endless entertainment. For example, we can watch videos in YouTube which has millions of videos from comedy to romance and horror to suit our mood. Not only that, some television networks have their own websites. These enables us to catch up on movies or television programmes on television which we have missed. Radio channels such as Class95 and Perfect10 also have their own sites to listen to radio programmes for those who do not own a radio set. There are also many sites that enable the users especially youths to watch anime or read manga online. This is good as this enables us to save money as the cost of a manga or anime DVD can be quite expensive. These different from of online entertainment will not only gives us leisure but also provide a medium in which we can relieve the daily stress from school and work. The second advantage of the internet is E-commerce which is growing rapidly and becoming more popular. Examples of e-commerce include online shopping and e-banking. Through online shopping, we can buy many things over the net which provides a range of products from all over the world with just a click of the mouse. Examples of famous online shopping sites are Yahoo!, Amazon and e-bay which sells various products from books and furniture to electronic devices and office supplies. Doing shopping online is indeed convenient as we do not need to travel to do our shopping. As a result, time is saved.

The Jump :: First Person Narrative Examples
Anxiety took over my body as I prepared to jump. The 80 foot waterfall looming atop Turner Falls seemed to be challenging me, beckoning me to come and attempt to plunge from the rock into the waterfall to try to endure the pressure as the water knocked me straight down into the deep waters and jagged rocks which awaited below. I waited with an eager excitement thinking that if I could take this plunge, I would really be able to swim with those I saw as the "big fish." Waiting on that rock I had no idea that the events following my wait would change that jump from being something I so much desired into something I would be grateful to never personally experience. Ahead of me in line were two brothers, one 14 years old and the other 17. They were both tall and thin with caramel colored skin. They had wiry black hair and dark brown eyes and continually chattered back and forth to each other and their many other brothers and sisters in Spanish. With an inability to swim, the brothers jumped in with nothing to aid them but faith that the waters would push them out into shallow safety. The two went under and a fanatic frenzy broke out when random bystanders watching on the sides realized that the boys were not coming up. The lifeguards began frantically blowing their whistles and screaming at everyone, "Get out of the water! Everybody! Out! Now!" With no knowledge of the severity of what was going on, I was almost in a state of confusion as I looked to the side and saw my mother screaming at me to get off the rock. Needless to say, I went to my mother and within seconds the water was empty, except for the two boys who lay below the surface. One brother was retrieved from the water in only a few moments, not smooth and with ease, as I expected from what I'd seen on television, but with severe difficulty, as if he was 1000 pounds of dead weight. The other was nowhere to be found. In a desperate search, the breathless and scared lifeguards came over to the crowd, which had formed aside the water. "Do we have any divers in the crowd? Please? Anybody with any experience at all please we need your help." After over 15 minutes of searching and scrambling, finally the second brother was pulled from the water from a spot directly under the waterfall, 19 feet beneath the surface.

A Separate Peace Themes
A Separate Peace by John Knowles concerns itself about a young adult named Gene who decides to visit his old school Devon years after the war and recollects his memories of his friend, Phonies. Most of the story is a flashback about the hardships Gene and Phonies had to face growing up in high school during a war. During this flashback, Gene grows through the phase where he must let go of his childhood and mature to adulthood. Throughout the book, Phonies symbolizes childhood and innocence, revealing the main theme of the book: innocence versus maturity.Gene's Journey through his years at Devon shows how he matures and gains a bigger understanding of the world around him. At the beginning of the book, both Gene and Phonies were childish at the beginning of the book. For example, Phonies would wear pink clothing and a school tie as a belt to a headmaster's gathering. ââ¬Å"In his haste that morning Finny had not unexpected used a tie for a belt. But this morning the tie at hand had b een the Devon School tieâ⬠(20). This shows a level of disrespect of self-image and school-image that usually rash, young children have.Phonies even believes that the war is Just a scam made up by adults to get a profit. There's the bad, there's the good; Just pure black and white. He was even able to rationalize this illogical belief to Gene, and Gene easily gives in. Just like how a child sticks to her favorite blanket or comforting teddy bear to protect her from the nasty in life, Phonies is Gene's way of clinging on to a more immature view to explain life simply. As Gene begins to mature through his years at Devon, he loses Phonies for a while as Phonies recovers from his leg injury. This opens the door to Gene as he sees a new view point on life. He has a sense of guilt that he was the one who trounced Phonies out of the tree, but cannot explain his actions. This new sense of guilt make question if he is truly evil or still innocent. It raises the question that there may be something more than Just cruelly evil or purely good that Phonies seemed to believe earlier. However, Phonies, symbolizing Gene's childhood, tries to pull Gene back to a world of innocence with winter carnivals and games ââ¬â games where there are no losers and everyone wins.Affected by Phonies' tempting simple ideals, Gene finds himself hard to let go of the innocent outlook on life. Still, this prodding question further develops when Gene meets Leper after the effects of the war. ââ¬Å"The army has the perfect word for everything, did you ever think of that? â⬠¦ And the perfect word for meâ⬠¦ Psycho. I guess I am. I must be. Am I though, or is the army? Because they turned everything inside outâ⬠(141 , 149). This quote summarizes the scene when Gene learns about harsh cruelties of war, and begins to realize that the world is bitterer than he had originally thought.Human beings can be evil. This completely transforms his original innocent view on the world. At t he end of the novel, when Gene is of age to be recruited into the war, Gene has learned much about the harsh truth of reality. He begins to move into an acceptance state. When Phonies realizes that it was Gene who had originally trounced the branch, Gene is able to explain that there are certain evils, certain impulses that earlier in the novel. ââ¬Å"No, I don't know how to show you, how can I show you, Finny? Tell me how to show you.It was Just some ignorance inside me, some crazy thing inside me, something blind, that's all it wasâ⬠(191). Gene accepts that humans are neither fully good nor evil, but normal beings with natural impulses. Knowles shows throughout the book that as one ages and matures, one must lose that innocent childish mentality. Gene slowly pulls apart from Phonies' ideals and moves onto a more complex understanding of human behavior. However, as Gene reaches young adulthood, Knowles cleverly has Phonies pass away, as only to show that in order for Gene to fully mature and reach adulthood, the innocent childhood must completely disappear. Did not cry then or ever about Finnyâ⬠¦. ââ¬Ë could not escape a felling that this was my own funeral, and you do not cry in that caseâ⬠(186) The quote even shows that Gene feels that Phonies was part of himself. This is referring to the naive childhood part of Gene. Knowles consistently expresses the theme of innocence versus maturity. He tells us that in order to achieve maturity and achieve the fuller, complex view on life, one has to lose the innocent outlook that usually the young has. Gene moved from a young naive child to a developed young adult.

The Relationship Between Personality Types And Learning...
Adi Dina Mrs. Gunby IB Math SL Period 0 21 November 2014 The Relationship Between Personality Types and Learning Styles In this paper, we will investigate the relationship between the personality types of students and their learning styles. I have surveyed a total of 68 students at Agoura High School using the personality test based on Carl Jungââ¬â¢s and Isabel Briggs Myersââ¬â¢ personality theories and Kolbââ¬â¢s theory of learning styles. I decided to conduct this research in order to help people understand their personalities better, and so that they can get the most out of their learning experiences. Prior to conducting this research, I hypothesized combinations of personality types and learning styles that would share a relationship. In this study, I will examine the relationship of the two. Through learning the personality types of my classmates, I will discover a lot about them and have the ability to understand them better. Once figuring out the relationship between the personality types and learning styles, I will share the results with the students who I have surveyed. By doing this, I will inform students on how to apply their personality type to their learning style in order to excel in all learning experiences. To begin, I will address Carl Jung and Isabel Briggs Myersââ¬â¢ theory on personality types. Viruses And Its Effects On Humans - 1404 Words
Though viruses may seem as though it only has the potential to cause harm, recent studies have surfaced to change its bad reputation. Common known viruses such as Ebola, rabies, influenza, HIV and more are known to show harmful reactions to humans, sometimes even possible to cause death. Because of the way they work, viruses such as the human immunodeficiency virus has been looked into in terms of reprogramming, ending in a result that could possibly be an option to treat another catastrophic epidemic of humans, cancer. What are viruses? Viruses are small infectious agents that replicate inside the living cells of other organisms. Viruses particles are one hundred times smaller than a human cell. Viruses are not alive. They cannot growâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦In the lytic cycle, the virus particle attaches itself to the host cell in a process called absorption. The virus particle then injects either its DNA or RNA into the host cell, in a process for entry. This invading DNA or RNA takes over the cell and recruits the hosts enzymes**.(add citation)** These enzymes now start making new virus particles, in a process called replication. The particles of the virus that were created by the cell could then come together to form new viruses. These now newly formed viruses can then kill the cell so they may break free through lysis and search for a new host cell, in a process called release. The lysogenic cycle is another form of viral reproduction that involves the fusion of the nucleic acid of a bacteriophage with th at of a host. Their viral genome will integrate with host DNA and replicate along with it fairly harmlessly. This virus then remains dormant until the hosts conditions deteriorate, which is when prophages become active. At this point they initiate the reproductive cycle, resulting in lysis of the host cell. As the cycle allows the host cell to continue to survive and reproduce, the virus is reproduced in all of the cellââ¬â¢s offspring (George 1996). How does HIV affect the body? Infection with HIV is particularly troublesome for the immune system because it infects and destroys immune system cells.(Bagby, 2015) Untreated, the disease progresses over a few years to AIDS,

The Hidden Recesses Of The Mind - 1045 Words
He that has eyes to see and ears to hear may convince himself that no mortal can keep a secret. If his lips are silent, he chatters with his fingertips; betrayal oozes out of him at every pore. And thus the task of making conscious the most hidden recesses of the mind is one which it is quite possible to accomplish. - Sigmund Freud, Dora:An Analysis of a Case of Hysteria All human writing contains hidden pieces of the unconscious mind buried within layers of symbols and psychological defenses. When one writes something, all previous experiences, feelings, and thoughts are brought together to form whatever the person wishes to convey. Hidden emotions and feelings that are being suppressed by psychological defences are often expressed unconsciously revealing the speaker s hidden secrets. Logan LeBlancââ¬â¢s squibs contain multiple different psychological defences, but Intellectualization and escapism appear the most often; they are usually used together in his writing. Almost every time a very personal topic comes up in one of LeBlancââ¬â¢s logical trains of thought, the conversation suddenly changes to either something that he deems happy or acceptable, or he starts stating facts about one topic or another. Bernoullis Theorem Apparatus free essay sample
The objective of this experiment is to determine the relationship between pressure head, velocity head, and static head and compare it with Bernoulliââ¬â¢s Theorem. The total head of flowing liquid between two points remain s constant provided there is no loss due to friction no gain due to application of outside work between the two points. So basically the apparatus used for this experiment consist of a venture tube with different diameter at certain part, 8 tubes of water manometer, a rotameter, stainless steel tube and a stop watch to record the time of the water flow. The procedures are simple, after connecting the hydraulics bench outlet to the test set, the pump is started. Then adjust the flow rate to 10, 15, 20 L per minute. The flow rate and readings for each manometer should be taken and recorded in the table provided. The total head at any point is indicated on tube no. We will write a custom essay sample on Bernoullis Theorem Apparatus or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page 7. As for the result, we need to obtain the time needed for the flow to fill up 4L. Then we can calculate the flow rate followed by the velocity of the flow at any point. With the velocity of the flow for each point are known, thus we can calculate the velocity head for each point. As for the static head value is taken from the manometer readings. We can observe that even point 1 and point 8 have the same diameter but the flow rate manometer readings might differ a little which is due to the friction loss along the venture tube. There might be some error occur in this experiment as the valve in this apparatus used contain some defect which will affect the result of the experiment. After conducting this experiment, we can conclude on the statement of Bernoulliââ¬â¢s Theorem that relates between velocity head and static pressure head, where the increase of velocity head is compensated by a reduction in the static pressure. Objectives The purpose of this experiment is to investigate the relation of pressure head, velocity head and static head then compare with Bernoulliââ¬â¢s Theorem. Besides, this experiment also aims to determine the total head and the friction loss between two points in the Venturi tube with same cross sections. Theory: Bernoulliââ¬â¢s Theorem States ââ¬ËThe total head of flowing liquid between two points remains constant provided there is no loss due to friction no gain due to application of outside work between the two points. Total head (HL) of flowing liquid is made up of Elevation Head or Static Head (Hs). Another example of friction loss is as point 1 and point 8 have same diameter, we should expect that the static head are equal. But as shown is the result the values are not the same in fact the value of point 8 are much lower than that of point 1. This has shown the existence of friction loss along the venturi tube. Besides that, error or mistakes committed during the experiment may also affect the end results. There are several errors and mistakes might have occurred during the experiment which affected the result. The errors and ways to avoid these from happening in the future are as follow: I. There might be some air or bubble that entrapped in the venturi tube or the manometer. This will affects the flow of the fluid in the venture tube and also affect the readings of the manometer. To this error from happening, we should allow the fluid to flow until there is no visible bubble before starting the experiment. II. During the experiment, we encounter some problem on the valve of the apparatus. It seems that it could not be tighten. Even after that it was fixed but this might slightly affect the result due to the defect of the valve. Therefore any broken parts of the apparatus should be replaced and maintenance should be done on the equipment to ensure that it is in a good condition. III. Some unnoticed leakage or blockage in the equipment might also affect the result. Maintenance on the equipment should be done regularly to avoid this. IV. Human errors such as parallax error and some delay in pressing the stop watch might also hugely affect the results of the experiment. The only way to avoid this is to repeat the experiment for several times. V. Manometer that fluctuates all the time makes it harder to get the exact values and therefore influence the accuracy and consistency of the data. So we should wait until it steadies at a certain value before taking the reading. Conclusion This experiment has demonstrate the relation of pressure head, velocity head and static head and compare it with the Bernoulliââ¬â¢s theorem which stated that The total head of flowing liquid between two points remains constant provided there is no loss due to friction no gain due to application of outside work between the two points. In conclusion, the total of velocity head and the static head should be equal to the total head which is the manometer value point 7. And the reason that the total is not equal is due to the existence of friction loss along the venturi tube. From this experiment, we can notice that smaller cross sections of Venturi tube will have higher velocities, thus the cross section of the tube is inversely proportional with the velocity. Flow rate will affect the velocity head. References Hydrology and Hydraulic Engineering I Laboratory Lab Manual Appendix
